Sometimes a play comes along that stays in your heart for a long time after you’ve seen it. This was certainly the case for me when I watched renowned theatre company “Frantic Assembly” first perform this heart-wrenching play back in 2016.

Were it not for the pandemic we would have staged this in 2020, so it’s been a long time in the shadows.

My privilege is working with such a talented cast who have embraced my slightly unconventional directional style, and also being able to welcome 2 newcomers to NTPD playing the sons of the family. I’m blessed to have the same production team that brought you “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” and “The Shawshank Redemption” so this will be a visual treat.

Many people have asked me what the play is about, and for those that don’t know it I won’t give away any spoilers, you’ll have to come and find out! But at it’s heart it’s a story about love. Love that’s sometimes comforting, and sometimes suffocating, but always love. Mum and Dad, Fran and Bob Price, have worked hard to give their 4 children everything they never had, and in the course of one year each of their adult children face a crisis in their lives that could rock this close knit family forever.

There is so much in this play that I know our audiences will relate to. Whether it’s about your own children growing up, and letting them go, or siblings knowing when love just isn’t enough anymore.

You can expect to laugh, because it’s funny as well as touching. There are moments that might make you catch your breath, and you may shed some tears. You might even leave the theatre wanting to text your own family. This one is certain to stay with you long after the curtain falls.
